Defining Ignorance

I would define ignorance as the purposeful disregard of truth and learning, as opposed to the lack of understanding. Even scientists are expert in a tiny infinitesimal sliver of human knowledge.

An example of ignorance is purposefully, willfully choosing to believe a conspiracy theory rather than acknowledging the countervailing facts.

Obviously, ignorance has nothing to do with your "IQ", whereas the goal of education is to help students discern and respect the truth, and help them develop the tools to learn more effectively.

Of course you don't need to go to college to be educated, and there are plenty of "Harvard graduates" who are ignorant.
